PERMIT TO SET FIRE TO THE BUSH


WESTERN AUSTRALIA BUSH FIRES ACT – 1954 Regulation 15

Subject to the provisions of the Bush Fires Act 1954, and the regulations made there under burnning permits will be issured taking into consideration the observation of current and short term future weather forcasts.

The conditions endorsed on the permit including the provisions of section 18 of the said Act must be abided by to avoid the permit applicant being subject to penalties as prescribed in the Act. 

Significant factors to be taken into consideration prior to conducting a burn under permit include:

  • Wind speeds to be less than 20km/hr (at when measured a 2m elevation). 
  • Fire Danger Rating to be 'Moderate' or 'No Rating' according to EmergencyWA resources https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/fire-danger-ratings   
  • That the weather forecast, for several days after the day of the burn, will continue to be mild. 

A bush fire control officer, who will issue the permit, is not compelled to inspect an area to be burnt before issuing a permit to burn. The onus lies on the person issued with the permit not only to comply with the provisions of the Bush Fires Act 1954, but also to ensure there is no danger of the fire escaping.
