Environmental Health Services for the Shire of Cunderdin are provided by Tim Jurmann who is contactable by phone on (08) 9635 2700 on Tuesdays . Alternatively you can send an email via building@cunderdin.wa.gov.au
The role of the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) is to oversee and protect the public environmental health standards of the communities within the Shire of Cunderdin in the areas of water surveillance, food safety, disease control, community living, waste management and health education. The aim of the service is to improve the health of the communities, protect the quality of the environment and to ensure the requirements of the Health Act and Regulations are adhered to.
The following is a brief list of some of the programs currently implemented by Environmental Health Services:
- Routine inspection and sampling of public swimming pool.
- Routine inspection of food premises, and food monitoring programs to ensure food for sale is fit for human consumption.
- Investigations carried out on notifications of infectious disease, to attempt to isolate the source of contamination and to prevent further spread of the disease.
- Maintain programs for the control of mosquitoes and other pests and to provide education to the communities on such issues.
- To ensure that accommodation and community facilities meet satisfactorily standards of health and safety.
- Assess applications for effluent disposal systems.
- Respond to Complaints relating to noise, dust, smoke, smell, insect, vermin & other health nuisances.
I'M ALERT Food Safety Training
Collaborating with Environmental Health Australia (EHA), the Shire of Cunderdin is pleased to provide our registered businesses and community groups with complimentary access to the I'M ALERT online food handler training course. This flexible, self-paced program aims to empower food handlers with the skills and knowledge necessary to ensure the safe and hygienic handling of food.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a printable certificate.

Septic Systems
For all unsewered areas, onsite effluent treatment systems will be required. An application to ‘install apparatus for the treatment of sewage’ will be required and all fees paid before construction may commence. Plumbing connections are to be done by a licensed plumber. The effluent treatment system is to be a type approved by the Department of Health.
Noise
Unless you have made special arrangements with your neighbours, keep loud equipment noise needs to be kept to a reasonable time limit (2 hours) each day to keep the peace in the neighbourhood. Chainsaws, lawn mowers and motorbikes should not be used before 7am or after 7pm Monday to Saturday (or before 9am on Sundays and public holidays). Permission from the owner is required for any use of motorbikes or chainsaws on property that you do not own. For party noise, noise should be kept to a minimum after 10pm until 7am the next day (or 9am on Sunday mornings).
